On Friday the 18th of January we finally made it to the jungle by Kelani River, after a three hour journey and an hour of driving the wrong way up a mountain!
That night we had a delicious dinner and played some games. In the morning they served left over curry and rice for breakfast, seriously? For breakfast?! I stuck to bread, butter and fruit!
We had a great morning white water rafting! The scenery was beautiful and despite being petrified about falling out of the boat and hitting my head, I loved the rafting! We then had a funny afternoon doing some team building exercises, walking across titeropes and lifting each other through holes.
In the evening we had an amazing BBQ, including fries! I ate far too much! After dinner I was chosen to light a fire on an island in the river with a Sri Lankan man, it was really random! They then let off fireworks which were stupidly close to the rest of the team who were standing on the riverbank. It was pretty dangerous but no one got injured thankfully!
That night we got woken up by some random drunk Sri Lankan guy that was banging on our door! Catia and I were pretty scared but no one else woke up so we didn’t answer the door!
It also seemed that the volunteer team all suffered from a dodgy stomach that weekend, despite the food tasting great!!
We went for a trek through the jungle on Sunday and it was really beautiful. We saw rice paddy fields, tea plantations and then stopped at some natural pools. Whilst there we jumped into the pools from a height and slid down the rocks into the water. It was so refreshing after the trek! We also saw some crocodile, giant lizard kind of animal come out of the water!
It was a brilliant weekend and it was great to spend some quality time with the volunteer team
This weekend we’re all going to Una Wattuna. I am feeling shattered after the first week of projects so I cant wait to lie on the beach and relax!
Have a good weekend everyone
